45RFE Clutch Volume Index (cvi)

The volume of transmission fluid needed to apply each clutch pack is constantly measured and monitored. The TCM uses this data for adaptive controls. As the friction material wears, the volume of fluid needed to apply the clutch will increase. Once the clutch is worn out, the CVI should be out of spec. Below are typical clutch volume readings. Anything out of this range should indicate an internal failure of some kind.
  • L/R clutch volume: between 82 and 134
  • 2C clutch volume - between 25 and 85
  • OD clutch volume - between 30 and 85
  • 4C clutch volume - between 30 and 85
  • UD clutch volume - between 30 and 100
