Complaint: Transmission quits shifting at times while setting codes U0114 TCM - lost communication with the final drive module, U0102 TIPM - lost communication with the transfer case module, U0402 -drivetrain module received implausible data from the TCM.

Cause: The transfer case mode selection switch mounted in the center console had liquid spilled in it (Check figures 4 and 5).

Correction: The transfer case switch and circuit were replaced, they were replaced as an assembly, connector was also cleaned.

Part numbers related to the repair: N/A

Year Make and Model of the Vehicle: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Mileage: N/A

Shop Name: Phil's Auto Trans

Additional Notes: The tech checked the power and ground to the drivetrain control module, both were good (see figure 1). The tech then hooked up a test light to the ignition feed circuit and had the customer drive the jeep, light never went (see figures 2 and 3). After further checks it was the AWD selector light that went out when the transmission would stop shifting, turning the knob for the switch the light would come back on and the transmission would start shifting again.
