TRNW-2: R&R Tips 845RE 17 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had a couple close calls with Jeep R&R but we haven't done one. We priced them so high they went away. I don't think I would/will ever overhaul one of these.
I knew Jeeps were tough R&R. I had a lower mileage Pacifica I put a valve body on from Dodge for a park problem. The customer had already had it at the dealer. It was throwing all kinds of codes that were cleared before he brought it to us,and I think I fixed that part with a Star connector. But a few weeks later it came back with a smoked transmission. All I did was put a dealer valve body on it,and a Star connector above the glove box. It didn't smell burnt before I worked on it,but when it came back it was throwing ratio codes and was smoked. I had already got a warranty valve body when it came back, not yet knowing it was smoked and I put it on. I honestly didn't screw anything up the first time, no pinched O rings Etc.. But under the valve body a speed sensor was almost melted. The Customer opted to take it back to the dealer for a whole transmission. Last I heard they put 3 transmissions in it over a 9 month to year or so period. It's been over 6 months or so since I heard anything more about it.
But bouncing something with this kind of R&R would make the whole shop suicidal, and I don't think I want to go there.
So we have been shooting the moon and scaring people away on these things pricewise so far. There sure are a gazillion of them on the road.

I didn’t get any hits on this, or at least I didn't see any, but I can tell you don’t go by the book. Don’t pull the belt or ac compressor or either catalytic converter. The goal is to get the left motor mount off. The book also says to pull the intake plenum but that’s was a no go for us also. We took the left motor mount off underneath working though the belt area. We just jacked the engine up a little and stuck a 2x4 between that aluminum oil pan and rack the removed the mount. This allows you to remove the starter. Unwire the starter and get it out of the way. We took the transmission cooler off and got it out of the way. Be careful not to damage the heater hoses removing them from the cooler because replacing them could make a tech suicidal. We removed the exhaust from the crossmember all the way back. Be careful and don't let the bell housing hit the O2 sensors. I recommend getting 2 techs to stab and unstab It because it's tight. This thing is hard to pull. I think it is a unit that really needs to be dyno'ed before installed. That's our take. Book pays 12.1. If we do another one we will get 16 or we are out.

Group,

We have yet to do a 4wd Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 with a 845RE. It says 12.1 hours and I was wondering if anyone has any short cuts on it?
