Chris,
This is normal and you need to install the torque converter like a 6T70 with the bellhousing facing the ceiling to avoid damaging seals. Do not install the converter the old-fashioned way. It's not the same.

Precision places a plastic plug inside to keep the stator from banging around prior to installation. Sounds like transtar doesn't use a cap to secure?

Subject: TRNW-2: 10r80 torque converter stator loose
Group, we’ve installed dozens of recon 10r converters. In the past few months had 3 of these recon 10r80 converters where the stator falls side to side. Not just a little loose but falls so far off center the only way to install the converter would be bellhousing up.
My salesman is replacing them so far but the plant is telling him this is normal, no problem found. I haven’t seen an original converter with near this much play in the stator. What are you guys seeing ? I have a video and pictures if anyone wants to see i can send it directly to you, the mailer kicked it back.
