Thanks, Dan! I will continue to try to clean it out.

Dan,

Sounds like the second dribbler is faulty or there is debris inside holding it open. I’d follow Jim’s advice on trying to clean them with lubricant to flush the capsule out a bit and see if it will hold.

I think it’s a tiny ball in a capsule, but I’ve never crushed one to see how’s it’s constructed inside.

If you want to be extra cautious, I’d get another stator support and test via the same method and use a good one. I’ve never replaced faulty ones and only replaced the entire stator support if it fails this test.

You can see the two dribblers here on the OD and Rev input circuit. Looks like it’s actually fed by converter charge oil and not direct line, but it’s always there.

Thanks, Dan. Figure #3 is the same type of orifice valve I have in my 2017 66RFE. Is there a screen in it, or is it a check ball? I vacuum checked them both in each direction and one of them sealed in one direction and was open in the other direction. The other one was open in both directions. I am trying to determine if this is a viable way to test them. Any suggestions?

Dan,

Good explanation available online on the trans mag sites and sonnax site. The dribblers are one way orifice valves meant to prime certain clutch housing circuits with just enough fluid to get the clutch ready for application. Oil travels from the line side of the stator support to the drum and NOT from drum to stator support.

I have not seen a source for this individual part.

Parts washer residue and major parts failure seem to cause debris here and trouble.

Here’s a good explanation from GEARS:

Read over here for lots of good info all around for this area of trouble.

If I remember right, this was the cause of overdrive clutches burning up sometimes. Getting old, I guess, I can't find the discussions in the discussion forum.

Can anyone educate me on how to test and, if necessary, replace the small dribbler valves in this 2017 66RFE? Where can I purchase them? I remember Art talking about these years ago...
