My warranty company experiences were all similar, car shield was the last
one I dealt with a few years ago. They generally want customers to approve
$ diag then dis & inspect. Then an itemized estimate with part numbers.
Then send an adjuster. Then an itemized estimate with part numbers. Then
pretty good chance they’ll send a unit. Last time it took a month to get to
“we’ll send a unit” then another month to get the unit.
You generally have to repeatedly provide multiple people with the same
information throughout the process. This part drove me crazy, like forms at
a Dr’s office.
Whole thing will likely take a few hours of office work and 1 month or
more, all for a lower profit margin than a customer pay job. I’ve tried
passing the phone calls off to the customer but that’s been unsuccessful.
If you have a dedicated office person and set customer expectations
correctly it can be ok.
The way to make money with a warranty company is give them a high labor
rate and look for every little add on. Oil pan leaking a little, .3 for a
skid plate, 1.6 diag. They’ll usually pay higher than normal labor rate and
all the little labor adding but try to cut your parts markup.
