TRNW-2: 10R80 CDF air check tool

I am using the 8 spd vms sizer on the ten speed input shaft
Once the 10 is together I put the 8 speed sizer over the input shaft
Then charge it with 60 psi rergulated air once the rings seal there good
To go they don’t charge I. try again
The 10 input shaft rings are similar to the old re5 rings the. Act like they have
An internal spine if you expand them too wide to install them they never seal
Hope this helps

I know you are supposed to use "regulated" air. But I don't. I use full pressure shop air. Not sure what it is,but probably around 160 PSI or over. I know it's a no no. But I have always done it that way,and have never blown anything.

Interesting that you guys are having success reusing the original rings. I tried to reuse them unsuccessfully on the first 2 10R80s, that I did. Then I tried scarf cutting the originals on the next couple unsuccessfully. We started replacing the rings with new rings, using old bearing races to expand them and the actual components to resize them which was time consuming but worked. We bought the VMS tools which have been working very well, but still don’t air check well at times. Hence why I am asking about the tool. I’ll start air checking with the old rings again and see if maybe I was just unlucky with the first two.

Thanks,
Phil

As Pat said airchecking through the shaft and case works for me. A quick google of 10R80 airchecks shows the passages.
I only replace blown rings on these from the sleeve walking

I have the sizers for the rings, but on occasion will leave the factory ones in place if its a low mileage unit with no burnt clutches, just did that yesterday on one with 90k miles, clutches were like new, valvebody was the issue with the unit. the sizers I have are made by VMS Concepts , they work great,

I check them on the shaft as well as through the case and have found that they are air checking better since getting the 3D printed sizer set, but still get the odd one that I need to add fluid to get to air check well. I like being able to air check the drum itself to at least eliminate anything within it as being the cause of the poor air check. I’m sure that I am due for trusting that my slight cross leak air check is the rings, only to find out it is a cut seal or cracked piston. Just added insurance I guess.

Why not just check them through the shaft? Maybe I don't understand. I know some may find differently but I am starting to find they aircheck dead tight leaving the original rings in place. I am in the process of testing now. I check them on the shaft when building and then through the case when finished.

Good afternoon everyone. I am wondering if anyone like Richard Wardell is making an aircheck tool for the 10R80, like his 6L80 tool that I've had for years? I think I saw a video with Richard or someone else using said 10R80 tool and I keep forgetting to ask if he is making them? Thanks for any help.
