It always takes a little bit of time for Tod’s system to put them up there. I want to say a few days.

does anyone know why all of the responses to this aren't showing up on the trnw website?

John,

Varies with generation. What year are you working on?

All gens

I agree with Chris. BW or OE frictions appear to be best on these units. Overhaul kits are competitive from the dealer as well last we purchased. I think the part numbers on on the TRNW site.

E Clutch (456)

Inspect/replace the rear bushing in the stator support tube that supports the E clutch drum up front as it seals the circuit here. The A clutch drum (456) is also prone to crack/leak so check closely. High mileage would be smart to replace with new.

Rear planet

Spline wear where the 456 hub connect is common especially on the fullsize Transit applications. Gearsets are not cheap.

Gen 2

VBs we used to source new units from Ford, but as others on group state pricing is getting high. We don't see a ton of wear, but solenoids are hit/miss. I'd prefer a new set, but again pricing and availabiliy isnt great. Check leadframe on valvebody and replace if not updated. Ford did issue a PCM update to reprogram shift schedule to prevent high speed downshifts when the OSS fails.

Gen 1 (internal TCM)

We have seen internal TCM failures and solenoid failure rates appear higher on the 1st gen. I think the last one we did the complete VB/TCM (mechatronics) was > $1000 from the dealer.

I like the Transgo kits here in this both applications. Sonnax here not so much.

doing my first 6r80. I'm hearing a lot people say replace vb with oe. Are the vb kits not worth a crap. This trans only had tcc shudder, no codes. 200k, looks like original fluid. just tearing into it. pan very clean for mileage and no maintenance. Also hearing only borg clutches in 456. ANy other 6r80 experience greatly appreciated. Thank you
