TRNW TECH TIP
OF THE MONTH!
5R55S Direct Drum 5R55S Direct Drum (click to enlarge)

5R55S Cracked Direct Drum!
This is a picture of the direct clutch drum from a 2002 Ford Explorer with a 5R55S transmission. If you look closely near the inside diameter of the drum, you can see there is a hair-line crack.

The customer's complaint was very soft, slipping upshift. What we found was the direct clutch drum inner section is completly cracked and turning loose on the drum.

Be sure to inspect your 5R55s and 5R55w clutch drums closely!
