4L60Es are different then the 700R4s, the TCC enabled solenoid is always fed as long as the PR valve is regulating, it uses converter charge oil.

Here are two screenshots of the hydraulics to help illustrate the differences.

In a 700R4 you need the TCC enable solenoid is only fed once the 1-2 shift valve strokes (light blue circles). The apply pressure is converter charge oil coming off the PR valve (light green circles).

In a 4L60E on the other hand, the TCC enable solenoid is only fed at all times for as long as converter charge oil is present (light blue circles). Also, the apply pressure is no longer converter charge oil, instead it uses regulated apply oil controlled by the computer via the PWM solenoid (light blue circles).

In order to have look-up at a standstill in drive, your scanner has to be able to turn both the TCC enable solenoid and the TCC PWM solenoid. Some do, some don’t, you have to look at the PIDs on the scanner to see what your specific scanner does when you use the function at a standstill on that specific vehicle.

That is a valid test Steve, but there is no supply for the solenoid until second gear so for that test you do have to have pan off, solenoid out so you can stroke the valve manually and pump fluid supply. Preston, you should be able to turn lockup enable solenoid on after achieving second gear and watching your tcc slip speed. I test all my 4l60's with no 3rd or 4th gear before removal by putting trans in manual second, turning on my apply solenoid with the scanner and watch for a 0 tcc slip Rpm so I know how lockup is performing before pulling unit. The tcc enable solenoid functional test will enable lockup at full pwm.

I thought I remembered seeing that you could keep the filter in fluid by putting a hose from the filter to the pump inlet and then pushing up on the tcc valve in the pump and it should kill the engine ? it was years ago but I swear I saw where that was done somewhere ? it will be messy no doubt , and not sure its worth the mess, but ?

My guess would be no. Don't you need 2nd gear oil to stroke the L/U valve in the pump? Probably just turn solenoid off and on. Listen for it clicking.

'07 tahoe, in the functional test for tcc, is'nt it supposed to kill the eng with tcc on and trans in gear?
