This is a great discussion. I know that there are shops out there that rebuild 8L90s with a shudder, and yes that will usually correct the shudder, but there are also shops like ours that OFFER a complete fluid exchange and that corrects the problem 95% of the time. I tell the customer “there is no piece of equipment that allows us to determine if the fluid exchange will correct the shudder, so the only guarantee we can give is that we will do the fluid exchange and we will take your money for doing the work.” I tell them that say 90% of the time it eliminates the shudder on say a 8L90. Different vehicles have different success %. Like a 6F35 is about 85% on a happy customer, but the 6T70 only about 30% of the time the customer is happy. The 9T has a pretty good track record at our shop being about 80%. I just tell them if it works thank the Lord and if it doesn’t don’t get mad at me, but it’s ok to be mad at the vehicle. I give the %s and let them make the call.

The 9t traverses I’ve had in look like pretty heavy r&r for experimenting although I haven’t done one yet. The used units are high dollar, that’s usually a good indicator of failure rate.
Is the customer really willing to pay the whole thing if it still shudders? Will they pay r&r x2 plus oh in full if it has to come back out?

I guess what i mean on the fluid, like the 6F35s come in for a service and the red is gone, no burnt smell, just ugly black. My wifes 6t40, i serviced it at 70,000 and it was black but no burned smell, and i have serviced it every 15000 miles and now it has 130,000 and it drains red, lol. We are going to throw a converter in the 9T, they understand there is no warranty. I submitted info for hp tuners to look into future changes to modify this computer. May or may not happen for these. This trans works great when i use my scanner to control lock up which is either 100 percent on or off, so gonna throw a dealer tc in which is cheap and ship it. I will let you know if it has to come back out.
